Our Venue: The Iconic Keens Steakhouse Near Penn Station
Keens Steakhouse, founded in 1885 by theatrical producer Albert Keen, began as a gathering place for actors in the Herald Square Theatre District. It became famous for its historic Pipe Club, which today displays more than 50,000–90,000 clay pipes once owned by notable patrons including Teddy Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Babe Ruth, Will Rogers, J.P. Morgan, and General Douglas MacArthur, along with many of the era’s most influential performers and public figures.
Conveniently located just steps from Penn Station, Keens remains one of Manhattan’s most accessible and iconic dining landmarks.
Keens is equally known for its longtime signature dish—the legendary mutton chop—as well as its dry‑aged steaks. It stands today as the last surviving restaurant from the old Herald Square dining scene. Critics have consistently praised Keen’s: James Beard, Frank Bruni, and the James Beard Foundation (which honored it as an America’s Classic) have all celebrated the restaurant’s culinary excellence. Diners echo this praise, with Tripadvisor and Birdeye reviews highlighting the rich flavors, warm hospitality, and uniquely historic atmosphere.
For our event, we will be dining in the Teddy Roosevelt Room, an intimate, memorabilia‑filled space named for one of Keen’s most iconic patrons—a fitting setting to experience the restaurant’s storied legacy.
